Willie Taylor

Willie Taylor, 80, of Springdale, went to be with the Lord Saturday, February 15, 2020.  He was born in Strawberry, Arkansas to Alexander and Oretha (Crabtree) Taylor on February 5, 1940.

Willie was a multi-talented craftsman and owned Taylor’s Custom Cabinets for over 50 years.  He was always creating beautiful cabinets, furniture and toys for his family.  His woodworking and drawings will be treasured possessions for years to come.  He also enjoyed the great outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman.  His grandkids remember the many four-wheeler rides he gave them.  Many will remember him as a jokester and one who never met a stranger.

He devoted his life to the Lord and served Cross Church Springdale for over 45 years.  He loved music and would sing or whistle hymns all day.  Willie was incredibly hard working and talented but his greatest accomplishment in life was marrying his childhood sweetheart, Joy Walling, who stayed by his side for 60 years.

He is survived by his wife, Joy Beth (Walling) Taylor; their three children, Sheena Ober and husband Mike of Bentonville, Greg Taylor and wife Elaine, and Tim Taylor and wife Terry all of Springdale; twin sister, Willene Massey and husband Jim; one brother, Steve Taylor and wife Paula; eight grandchildren, Mandy Plummer and husband Chad, Grayson Taylor and wife Lindsey, Drake Taylor and wife Ashton, Bailey Moore, Micah Ober and wife Ashley, Drew Ober and wife Shelby, Christian Taylor, Blaire Taylor; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will begin at noon followed by a funeral at 1 p.m. Friday, February 21, at Cross Church Springdale.  Burial will be at Friendship Cemetery.  Willie’s grandsons will serve as bearers.

Memorial contributions may be made to Cross Church, 1709 Johnson Rd., Springdale, AR 72762.

Many of us will have a lasting memory of Willie from the beautiful woodwork he has done for us in our homes. He has passed that through his children and we are all grateful for his artistry and eye for detail. He could tell fun stories! I will miss him but we will see him again.

I loved my cabinet maker and friend Willie. We had such laughs together when Gary and I were building our house. My cabinets are stunning and all due to Willie-his carpentership, and willingness to help me attain what I wanted. I also remember him saying amen out loud during sermons at church years ago. Willie will be missed greatly I know by his family and all his many friends. Rest in peace buddy.

Willie did our cabinets in our home we built back in 1992 he was quite the day he came to measure and give us a bid, but when he came back to work he was such a happy person he whistled a few tunes while he worked. My husband knew about Willie from seeing him on jobs sites as my husband is a plumber. We still live in our home 28 years later our cabinets have held up beautifully and very sturdy, Tim his son has done some cabinet remodeling and some new cabinets Willie passed down his great craftsmanship… Read more »

Joy, and the entire Taylor family: Willie will be missed greatly. He was a wonderful neighbor, friend, craftsman, but mostly a loving family man who deeply cared for his family. He built all our cabinets 33 years ago, and they are still beautiful. May God’s peace and love comfort you.

We are so sorry for your loss. We’ve known the family ever since I was a little girl. I even remember being out at Mr Taylors house a few times with my mom and dad. As I remember he always had a smile on his face.
Mom and dad send their love and condolences as well, and dad was sorry he couldn’t make it to the funeral as he is not feeling well and found out this news to late.
Our prayers and thoughts are with the family.
