Margaret Elizabeth “Auntie” Shaver

On March 9, 2020, Margaret Elizabeth “Auntie” Shaver went to her heavenly home.  At 101 years old, she lived a long happy life, filled with friends, family and love.  Margaret was born on January 1, 1919, to Grace Norwood and James Ray in Clifty, Arkansas. She married Ray Shaver in 1939, who proceeded her in death in 1995.  Margaret and Ray bought and sold houses and lived in over 70 homes in the Springdale area.  They were the original “flippers”.

Margaret loved to quilt, do crosswords and read the Bible.  She was a Sunday school teacher for over 50 years and loved to go to church.  Margaret had many friends and was loved by all who knew her. She will be dearly missed.

Margaret is survived by a brother James Ray of Albuquerque New Mexico, by 5 nieces and nephews, David Ray, James Ray, Nina Stone, David Joyner and Max Sherry. She is also survived by 56 great, great-great and great-great-great nieces and nephews. She is better known to all of us as Auntie.  Auntie loved visits with her nieces and nephews and was an amazing storyteller.  If you ever heard any of her stories, then you know about her falling from the vine swing and the panther that escaped from the circus.  She was a Godly woman and an inspiration to all who knew her!

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. followed by a funeral at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 12, at Phillips Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.  Interment will be at Friendship Cemetery.

I went to church with both of them at Phillips Chapel and she was a sweet Christian lady.

I had the privilege of getting to know Margaret for just a few short weeks but in those few visits she shared with me how much she loved the Lord and loved reading her bible. Her favorite book was St. Luke. She loved her family and you could not only see but feel the love that they all shared. She had a very beautiful soul inside and was such a dear sweet lady. She will be missed by all of those that came into contact with her. The simple touch of her hand would warm your heart and soul. I… Read more »
