Leonard J. Martin, Sr., 71, of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, passed away at home on Sunday, January 20, 2019, with his beloved family by his side. Leonard was born October 20, 1947, on the Martin Family Farm in Gettysburg. He was the son of the late Franz and Mabel (Good) Martin.
Leonard was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving proudly with the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fairfield, Pennsylvania. Leonard had been employed by Hulcher Services of Gettysburg for 23 years and had helped work on the family farm for many years. He enjoyed spending time on his farm in Arkansas, tending to his yard and gardens, hunting, shooting pool and watching NASCAR racing. Leonard is survived by his life partner, Judy West; three children, Leonard J. Martin, Jr. and wife Natasha of Lowell, Arkansas, Beverly A. Martin-Gross and husband Michael of Round Rock, Texas, and Rebecca M. Martin of Lowell, Arkansas; eight grandchildren; five greatgrandchildren; two step-sons, Stephen Shank of Florida and Matthew Shank of Fairfield, Pennsylvania; eight step-grandchildren; five step-greatgrandchildren; four sisters, Joyce Speelman and husband Vernon of Gettysburg, Shirley Kleinfelter and husband Leroy of Gettysburg, Barb Deardorff and husband Marlin of Orrtanna, Pennsylvania, and Patsy Redding of Biglerville; four brother, Wilbur Martin and wife Delores of Gettysburg, Leroy Martin and wife Joann of Biglerville, Donald Martin and wife Barb of Gettysburg, and Ken Martin and wife Samantha of Gettysburg; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five brothers; Robert, Wayne, Philip, Charles, and Fred.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, January 28, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 256 Tract Road Fairfield, PA with Fr. Pater DiTomasso, Celebrant. Internment with military honors was held at the Fayetteville National Cemetery Friday, February 1. The family suggests memorials to: Pennsylvania Wounded Warriors or Grane Hospice Care.
