Jean Heyerholm Undem

Jean Heyerholm Undem, of Springdale, was born in Northfield, Minnesota, on December 30, 1937 to Darrel and Irene Heyerholm. She passed from this life on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at the age of 81.

She grew up in Northfield and always had good stories of those times – ice skating, friends from school and dancing. She graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield with a degree in art and minor in religion.  She met Obert Undem at this time, who was going to Carlton College. They later married and had two children – Steve and Carolyn.

The Undem family lived in the Minneapolis area until June of 1972, then moved to Tulsa and on to the Fayetteville area in the summer of 1975. During these years, Jean was a stay-at-home mother. She was involved with school PTA groups, organizing several after school programs. During the years in Tulsa she sold Mary Kay cosmetics and developed many close friendships with the people involved.

After moving to Fayetteville, Mom learned to fly single engine aircraft. This was one of her true passions. At this time, she also began a career as an antique dealer. She would set up at antique shows all over the southeastern and central United States.

Jean and Obert divorced in 1983. At this point she moved to Springdale to the house she lived in until just a few days before her passing. It was always a happy home. She loved having dogs around and at one point had six. She always enjoyed a good day out, whether it was a flea market adventure, going to garage sales or just out running errands.

As a result of health issues, she was bedridden for the last 9 years of her life. Her daughter Carolyn moved in with her for these years. Carolyn put her own life on hold to take care of our Mother and did a fantastic job. In the last years of her life, Jean enjoyed watching a good movie, reading the newspaper and visiting with friends and family. She always enjoyed a good laugh or a story about what the grandkids and great-grandkids were doing. Over the years, she had some wonderful vegetable gardens.  She enjoyed any fresh vegetables and despised commercially canned vegetables. She was a great cook and always loved putting together a big Thanksgiving meal. Until she went into her final decline, she was fond of good BBQ or fresh shrimp boiled with a creole seasoning and always enjoyed a glass of wine.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Darrel and Irene Heyerholm. She is survived her children, Steve Undem of Morrow and Carolyn Hollingsworth of Springdale; grandchildren, Amanda Bayley, Sara Tice, Mia Undem, Zac Undem, and several great-grandchildren.

We love you Mom and will always miss you. May the road rise to meet you. May the wind always be at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face and the rain fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.
